Internships

Student Internship Spotlight

Megan Donnelly ’18

placeholder

Megan is the outpatient intern at Chestnut Health Systems. Chestnut Health Systems is an organization that focuses on substance abuse and addiction recovery. Specifically, Megan works with adolescents recovering from substance addiction in group therapy sessions, either observing a clinician or leading sessions of her own. Sessions she often participates in focus on topics such as drug education, relapse prevention, and life skills.

Coming into this semester, Megan had previous experience working with children, and with this internship had gained the experience of working in a clinical setting. Considering behavioral medicine as a potential career path, this internship has helped make strides toward her goal to work in this field.

This experience has helped me develop so many skills critical to my future career, but there is one that I will always keep with me: every individual has a story. It is so easy to assume you know someone, but you cannot possible begin to understand them until you have taken the time to listen and learn what they have gone through. This skill in particular will benefit me in the future when I continue to cross paths with individuals whose stories may vary wildly from my own.

Elly Jones '91, a division manager at State Farm, talks about her internships and other opportunities as an IWU student that helped prepare her for her career.
