Alcohol and Other Drugs

Welcome to the Counseling and Consultation Services Alcohol and Other Drugs Resource Page
This page serves as a helpful resource for all members of the Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) community, offering information and support around substance use and wellness.

Alcohol Use

You might be surprised to learn that not all college students choose to drink alcohol. In fact, at IWU, approximately 1/3 of students report that they typically do not consume alcohol during a typical week. Students have a wide range of choices when it comes to alcohol use—from abstaining entirely to choosing to drink in moderation.

Adopting a harm reduction approach and understanding what constitutes moderate drinking can significantly reduce the risks and negative consequences associated with alcohol misuse.

If you choose to drink, it's important to know your limits and stick to them. The resources below can help you better understand your relationship with alcohol. You’ll find:

  • Information on underage drinking laws

  • Alcohol screening tools

  • Facts about alcohol use

  • Tips for staying within healthy limits

Our goal is to support you in making informed decisions that align with your personal values and academic goals. We encourage you to make the most of your time at IWU in ways that promote both safety and well-being.
