CCS offers 30-minute crisis / urgent appointments:
M/W/F 10am-12pm and Tu/Th 2pm-4pm
Students experiencing a crisis outside of these hours should visit our emergencies page for after-hours crisis resources or call Campus Safety (309-556-1111).
Individual therapy sessions are provided by Licensed Clinical Counselors who work with you to address the concerns that led you to seek support. These sessions are designed to help you navigate challenges and build effective coping strategies. Most students typically attend 5-6 sessions.
Group therapy is a treatment option for students, offering a supportive space to explore shared experiences, develop new insights, and practice interpersonal skills in a safe environment.
When Group Therapy May Be More Effective
- Interpersonal Issues: Group therapy is particularly effective for concerns related to social anxiety, isolation, relationship patterns, and conflict resolution, as it provides real-time social interaction and feedback.
- Universality and Support: Students often benefit from the sense of shared experience and peer validation, which can reduce feelings of shame and isolation.
- Skill Building: For students learning coping strategies (e.g., through CBT or DBT groups), the group setting allows for modeling and practicing new behaviors.
Training, Support, and Outreach Services:
