Originally from China, Lu Witzig received her Bachelor degree in piano performance from Shenyang Conservatory of Music. She earned Master degrees in both piano performance and collaborative piano from Illinois State University. She won the first prize of TOYAMA Asian Piano Competition in 2004.
Lu performs actively as a chamber musician and soloist. She toured in China in 2018 and 2019, including performances in Shenyang Conservatory of Music and Harbin Conservatory of Music. As a collaborative pianist, she appeared at “Musical Mondays” and “Musical Discovery” with Peoria Symphony Orchestra. She served as a staff accompanist for music festivals including “Midwest Regional Tuba and Euphonium Conference” and “Midwest Institute of Operas”. With an enthusiasm for new music, Lu performs often at the Red Note New Musical Festival at Illinois State University and New Music Series at Illinois Wesleyan University.
As a passionate piano teacher, her students gain a love for music. Her students often win competitions, including the MTNA Sonata Festival. She also prepares her students for college auditions to pursue their degrees in music.
Lu joined Illinois Wesleyan University in 2012. She serves as a staff accompanist in the School of Music and a piano instructor for the Preparatory Department. She also works with students and performs frequently with faculty at Illinois State University and Northern Illinois University.
