IWU's School of Music is excited to host the 2nd Annual Illinois Wesleyan Honor Jazz Band, an event designed to showcase the exceptional talent of young musicians in our region.
The Illinois Wesleyan Honor Jazz Band is a prestigious opportunity for your top students to hone their skills and gain valuable experience in the realm of jazz performance. They will have the privilege of working closely with myself, Dr. Reginald Lewis, and the talented Dr. Matthew Storie, the Assistant Professor of Saxophone at the University of Nebraska Omaha, immersing themselves in the world of jazz and learning the intricacies of jazz band repertoire.
Throughout these two days, your students will engage in intensive rehearsals, and clinics, where they will develop their jazz improvisation skills, enhance their understanding of jazz theory, and collaborate with like-minded musicians from various high schools. Our goal is to nurture their passion for jazz and equip them with the tools they need to excel in this unique musical genre.
To nominate your top students for participation in the Illinois Wesleyan Honor Jazz Band, please have them submit the nomination by Friday, February 28, 2025, electronically through the Nomination Form.
In your nomination, kindly include the following information for each student:
- Student's Full Name
- Instrument
- Grade Level
- Contact Information (Email and Phone Number)
We believe that this experience will not only be educational but also inspirational for your students as they take part in the world of jazz and collaborate with other passionate young musicians and professionals.
We look forward to welcoming talented students to the Illinois Wesleyan Honor Jazz Band and celebrating their musical achievements together!
