Scott Whitman
Visiting Instructor in the School of Music
Scott Whitman grew up in Loves Park (Rockford), Illinois and came to Bloomington-Normal to study music education at Illinois State University. Scott performed and competed with the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps out of Toledo, Ohio for the 2009, 2010, and 2011 seasons playing mellophone. After graduating from ISU in 2014, he taught band and music in the area for 7 years, most recently doing 5th-12th grade band at Roanoke-Benson School District. Scott returned to ISU in 2021 for a Masters degree in Music Education. During that time he served as the Music Education Graduate Assistant and horn section leader for the Symphony Orchestra. After graduating in May 2023 he was hired by Illinois Wesleyan University and serves as the Head of Music Education. Scott and his wife (who met in marching band) have 2 children together; Corrigan (7) and Piper (4).
Scott is the current Pipe Major for Celtic Cross Pipes and Drums, a Peoria/Bloomington-Normal based bagpipe and drum band and also competes and performs with Milwaukee Scottish Pipe Band from Milwaukee and Clan MacAlpine Pipes and Drums from Rockford. On January 1st this year Scott marched in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California with Pipes on Parade: The Massed Pipes and Drums, an ensemble made up of people from over 30 states and 5 countries.
