Journalism and New Media Minor

Don’t think you want to major in English but love news and different kinds of media? The Journalism and New Media minor can be a great complement to any course of study. Students in the minor learn how to evaluate news sources, research and write in basic news style (also used in business), communicate effectively, and understand what it takes to create and maintain a public image using various types of media.

To minor in Journalism and New Media, six course units selected from the departmental offerings are required:

1. Journalism 211
2. Four courses from English 206, Journalism 212, 213, 315, 325, at least one of which must be at the 300 level or above.

3. Journalism 397 or English 335

Declaring the Journalism and New Media Minor

To declare English as your minor you will need to go to the Registrar’s Office (Holmes Hall 110) and fill out the proper Minor Declaration form. You will also need to fill out a pink Declaration form at the English House for record in the English Database.
