Secondary Teaching Specialization in English

Students wishing to teach English at the secondary level will major in English and take an education sequence through the Education Department.  Interested students who plan to apply for Illinois State Certification in secondary teaching should consult an advisor in the Education Department before the end of the fall semester of their first year.

English majors who minor in education are required to take additional courses and complete English 290: Grammar and Composition for Middle and High School English.
