Leave of Absences/Withdrawals
To proceed with either a student Withdrawal or a Leave of Absence, you must schedule
an appointment in advance with the Dean of Students office.
A Leave of Absence is provided to students seeking a temporary interruption in their
studies with the intent to reenroll. The length of a Leave of Absence can vary from
weeks to months, and in some cases, up to four semesters. Typically, a leave of absence
is a minimum of six weeks to adequately address the physical or mental health concerns
contributing to the need for a leave of absence. The reasons for a Leave of Absence
can be documented as Academic, Medical, Mental Health, or due to extenuating circumstance. A Leave of Absence can be converted to a student Withdrawal at any time through
continued communication with the Dean of Students office.
A student Withdrawal is an option for those who no longer wish to be enrolled at Illinois
Wesleyan University. Reasons for a Withdrawal may include Academic Performance, Academic Program, Personal, Institutional, Financial, Medical,
or Mental Health issues. (Students may also use this option for academic reasons for a partial Withdrawal
from classes. Please contact Academic Advising for additional information.)
*Tuition refunds may be sought in accordance with University regulations.
