Here, you'll find an overview of the various programs and initiatives led by our dedicated Student Senate to enhance the student experience and promote positive change on campus. Each of our commissioners is responsible for developing experiences in alignment with each of their areas: Advocacy and Awareness, Civic Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion, and Sustainability.
Advocacy and Awareness
Student Senate works to amplify student voices, address their concerns, and advocate for positive change. These initiatives also focus on raising awareness about important social issues and creating a platform for open dialogue, encouraging students to actively engage in discussion, broaden their perspectives, and become informed advocates. This commissioner's annual events have included:
- Mental Health Awareness programs: I Can, I Will; Chill Out, Don't Burn Out

Civic Engagement
Student Senate provides opportunities for students to actively participate in their local communities, fostering a sense of civic responsibility and empowering them to make a positive impact through volunteer work, community service projects, and engagement with local organizations. Diversity and Inclusion
Student Senate strives to create an inclusive campus environment where students from all backgrounds feel welcome, valued, and respected, promoting cultural understanding, acceptance, and mutual respect among the student body. This commissioner's annual events have included:

Sustainability
Student Senate actively promotes environmentally friendly practices, raise awareness about climate change, and advocates for sustainable policies and initiatives on campus, contributing to the overall reduction of our ecological footprint. This commissioner's annual events have included:

Sit Down with Senate: This was a homegrown series of dialogues centered around each commissioner's area.
The purpose of this initiative was to engage in productive conversations with members
of the IWU community (faculty, staff, campus & community stakeholders) to discuss
the important issues facing our lives today.
