Medical and Mental Health Accommodations
Students with diagnosed disabilities and/or medical conditions whose needs cannot
be met through the standard room selection process and the standard meal plan options
may request a housing and/or meal plan accommodation. To determine eligibility, current
and comprehensive documentation of a disability(ies)/medical condition(s) from the
diagnosing physician or other qualified professional is required.
Students must have the appropriate medical professional complete the Housing/Meal Plan Accommodations Request form found on the Office of Student Accessibility Services website by the deadline listed below for priority consideration. Please note that form should be completed and returned to Student Accessibility Services.
These requests will be reviewed and evaluated by Student Accessibility Services and the Office of Residential Life; submission of a request does not guarantee approval. Decisions are made based on the most recent supporting documentation based on the specific recommendations of the appropriate medical professionals. It is also Illinois Wesleyan University's expectation that during the term of the housing contract, the student adhere to the treatment plan assisting them in their need.
Note: A room accommodation will not be automatically granted from one academic year to the next. Students may need to supply ongoing supporting documentation stating the student's progress, ongoing diagnosis and documenting the continued need for a room accommodation. Accommodations are also not guaranteed and are subject to room availability.
For new students to IWU, the date for priority consideration for submitting the Verification for Housing and Meal Plan Accommodations is May 15 . While our inventory of rooms usually used for housing accommodations is limited, we will still accept forms after this date and do our best to work with you to meet your demonstrated need. Thank you in advance for working with us to help you.
For returning students, deadlines for submission of documentation and requests for room or meal plan accommodations are set by term as follows:
- Fall Semester: March 1, for priority consideration. Housing requests received after this date will be considered but accommodations will be granted when space is available to meet the needs of the student. Dining requests will be considered if the term has not yet started. Once the term starts, we are unable to change the dining plan.
- Spring Semester: December 15, for priority consideration. For apartment accommodations: October 1. Housing requests received after this date will be considered but accommodations will be granted when space is available to meet the needs of the student. Dining requests will be considered if the term has not yet started. Once the term starts, we are unable to change the dining plan.
- May Term: April 1, for priority consideration. Housing requests received after this date will be considered but accommodations will be granted when space is available to meet the needs of the student. Dining requests will be considered if the term has not yet started. Once the term starts, we are unable to change the dining plan.
