Summer Housing Information

Limited summer housing is available for current IWU students only  for Summer 2025.

To qualify for IWU summer housing, students must be in good financial standing with the Business Office, have no open conduct cases, be registered for fall classes (recent graduates are not eligible) and meet one of the following criteria.

  • Enrolled in an on-campus IWU Summer Course
  • Enrolled in an IWU for-credit internship
  • Employed by the University during the period of residence
  • Conducting research for a faculty member (approved by the Provost)
  • Has an international home address and is unable to return home for the summer
  • Participating in the Eckley Fellowship Program
  • Participating in the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP)

Students who fall out of compliance with any one of the required criteria will be asked to vacate summer housing within 48 hours.

Summer residence halls will be staffed with Resident Assistants and Office of Residential Life policies and procedures remain in effect throughout the summer term. Summer housing is a privilege, and violations of policy will likely result in termination of a student's housing for the rest of the summer.

Application Dates and Deadlines

The application will be live in the MyHousing portal starting Friday April 4, through the student's my.iwu.edu account.

For help logging into MyHousing or with the application, check out this video:  Completing Housing Application  (Note: Video is about a different application, but the same process. You will only need the first part of the video.)

Applications are due by Friday, April 18 at 12:00 p.m. Late applicants will be accepted and housed if space is available. Students who do not meet one of the above criteria will be considered after the applications from eligible applicants are placed.

Summer housing residents will remain in May Session spaces until ORL designates a time that they will begin moving into their assigned summer spaces (see Moving Timeline below).

Summer Charges/Rent

The cost of summer housing rent is billed monthly on an "all-or-nothing" basis. A student is staying for all or part of the month will pay the entire month's rent. Summer Rent will be reported to the Business Office within the first five days of the month of residence and will be applied to student accounts as per Business Office procedures.

Charge Amount Type of Housing

Total of $1,432 for Summer 2025

(Billed $358 Per Month for May, June, July, and August)

Residence Hall (Double room for Summer 2025)

From May Session - When students return in August

Note: Students not living in the residence halls for the fall need to check out when students move to Fall residence hall spaces, and are only charged for May, June and July.

University Subsidies

There are a few instances whereby the University will subsidize a portion of students' summer housing charges.  These primarily include students participating in the Eckley Fellowship Program (approved through the Provost's Office) or the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) through the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.  These subsidies will cover the cost of a standard room.

Moving Timeline

Summer Housing Move-In:

  • The date students will move into their summer assignments will be determined. Keys will be available in the Office of Residential Life, located in the Memorial Center near the Dug Out from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Students need to report any damages upon move-in to their Summer room (within 4 days of move-in) to ORL. The link will be sent to students with move-in information.
  • After moving out all belongings and appropriately cleaning their May assignment room, students need to fill out an Express Checkout Envelope, place their May assignment room key(s) inside the envelope, and either return the envelope/keys to the express checkout box near the hall office or bring them to the ORL office (during business hours between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.).
Summer Housing Move-Out:

Check-out for summer housing in Dodds will take place in the Office of Residential Life, located in the Memorial Center next to the Dugout. Your move-out dates will depend on when spaces are ready. You will be notified when your fall placement is ready for move-in, and you will have 48 hours to move into that space.

Before you can turn in your keys and check out, you and a pro/student staff member will inspect your room for damage and cleanliness. To check out, your room must:

  • Be clean and ready for the next person to move in
  • If your room is not clean, you will not be able to check out
  • If you are moving out close to the move-out deadline, a $25 cleaning fee will be charged to your account
  • There are no unclaimed items in the room
  • If any items are left in the suite, there will be a charge applied to all residents living in the suite evenly ($10 charge for each item left in the suite)

How to Move Out:

  • Once you receive your placement notification, use this link to sign up for the time at which you believe you will be moved out.  An RA/Pro Staff member will check your room at the time you choose.
  • On the day you receive your placement notification, come to ORL BEFORE your move-out time to get your new key to begin moving into your fall housing placement. Give yourself a reasonable amount of time to move your things before the room check.
  • Please ensure all of your belongings are removed from the room before your anticipated room-check time.
  • Once your room check time arrives, it is expected that you are in your old room placement, where the RA/Pro-staff member will meet you and conduct the room check.
  • Once the room check is complete, you will turn in your keys to the RA/Pro staff member, who will check you out of Dodds.

Please also keep in mind:

  • Summer residents housed in a residence hall or a Greek chapter house for Fall will move directly to their fall assignment during that time.
  • Students living in a sorority for the Fall should contact their house board to make arrangements for early arrival.
  • Students living off-campus or studying off-campus for Fall should make alternate arrangements for housing after August 6th at 6:00 p.m.
  • Students not checked out of summer housing by August 6th at 6:00 pm will be charged $100 for each additional night they or their belongings remain in residence.
