Rising Titan (Summer Orientation)

A one-day summer orientation experience where students will register for fall 2025 classes, engage in reflective conversations about their college experience, and meet Titan Orientation Leaders. We also invite up to two parents/family members to attend Rising Titan this summer, as we will host our Parent/Family Orientation in conjunction with Rising Titan.


Rising Titan is a required program for all incoming students, including international students. Please ensure you refer to the deadlines for registration shared in the Rising Titan Registration email you will receive.

8:30 am - 9:00 am:

Breakfast & Check In (Hansen Student Center, 300 E. Beecher St. Bloomington, IL 61701)

9:00 am - 9:30 am:

Introduction and Welcome to Rising Titan

9:30 am - 10:30 am:

Defining the College Experience (Students/Parents & Family Members)

  • A collegiate experience should help students identify and contextualize their education with respect to their goals and aspirations. This session asks students to think about their four-year experience with respect to their curricular and co-curricular goals. Students will also be introduced to academic requirements.
10:35 am - 11:15 am:

Students Debrief w/ TOLs
Titan Orientation Leaders (TOLs) are IWU student-leaders at IWU who are sources of support and information for incoming students. TOLs play a major role in facilitating the adjustment of new students and their families to the IWU community. In this session, incoming students will have opportunities to ask TOLs questions about campus resources, academics, and professional and social life at IWU.

Transitioning Your Titan: Changing Parenting Roles and Engagement w/IWU

11:15 am - 12:45 pm:

Second Language Placement Assessment: Assessment for all students (11:15 am - 11:45 am)

Lunch: Lunch available for students and families (11:15 am - 12:45 pm)

Resource Fair: Information Technology, Student Employment, Financial Aid, Arnold Health Services, Dining Services, Business Office, and Counseling & Consultation Services (11:15 am - 12:45 pm)

12:45 pm - 1:00 pm:

Parents/Families, and Students meet in Hansen

1:00 pm - 4:30 pm:

Students
For the afternoon sessions, students will be assigned orientation groups which will rotate through these sessions every 45-minutes.

  • Registering for Classes/Registration Advisor
    • Incoming students will register for Fall 2025 classes with the registration advisors.  Students will have a schedule of classes once they leave this session
  • Transitioning from High School to College
    • Have you ever thought about the many differences between high school and college?  Some of these changes will be unique to you while some changes will be more universal in nature.  In this session, incoming students will explore the process of transitions to college.
  • Thriving During College
    • As members of the IWU community we not only want you to succeed but also help you thrive as a Titan.  In this session, incoming students will be introduced to skills and resources which can help you thrive during your college experience.
  • Q&A with Titan Orientation Leader

Parent & Family Orientation Sessions

  • There will be sessions hosted in the Hansen Student Center focused on: Supporting a Thriving Titan, and Q & A with Faculty & Staff.  There will be an opportunity to engage in large and small groups, as well as meet student-centered faculty and staff at Illinois Wesleyan!
