Language Resource Center

Welcome

Located in Center for Liberal Arts Room 303, the Language Resource Center (LRC) provides faculty and students with computer and audio-visual support for learning additional languages, as well as peer-to-peer conversation practice and tutoring sessions in ASL, Chinese, French, Japanese and Spanish. The LRC is a language community space that supports language pedagogy training and experiential learning opportunities for the appreciation of world languages and cultures.

Mission

Promote the teaching and learning of additional languages and the appreciation of the diversity of world languages and cultures. Create opportunities for experiential learning, dialogue, and understanding of our interconnected world through our series of events, conversation practice, tutoring programs, and LRC spaces. Support the social emotional learning of our community.

Friday, 9 AM - 4 PM

Appointments are in person but tutors can meet online if your particular circumstances mean you cannot attend in person. Contact your tutor by e-mail if you have to change your appointment to meet online.

VR Language Immersive Experiences !

Try our new VR Language immersive experiences. Mark "VR ALL LANGUAGES" when booking your appointment or ask a tutor. They will guide you on how to use the devices in a quiet and private space so that you can explore many experiences such as:

visiting a café in Paris and placing your order
navigating the cycle route in Medellín and asking for directions
checking into a hotel in Tokio
... and much more around the world

Intercultural Corner - Events

The LRC Intercultural Corner is a vibrant program that actively encourages the exploration of world languages and cultures. Through a diverse range of events, including Lesser Taught Languages, World Voices, seminars, and workshops, as well as engaging activities like Yoga and Zumba in Spanish, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of our interconnected world.

Tutoring

The LRC offers peer-to-peer tutoring sessions in ASL, Chinese, French, Japanese and Spanish. Students who wish to have language papers reviewed by a tutor should sign up for at least two consecutive 20-minute sessions. Please sign up for a tutoring session using the "Make an Appointment" button. If you need help signing up, a tutor can walk you through the process. If you would like to become a language tutor, please fill out the application and return it to the LRC Office in CLA 328.

¡Háblame! & Parlez-Moi! Programs

The Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures (WLLC) hires conversation tutors in the languages that we offer. Some examples are the ¡Háblame! & Parlez-Moi! programs where students in intermediate French & Spanish are required to sign up for a 15-20 minute guided conversation every week. Please use the "Make an Appointment" feature to sign up for a tutoring session. If you would like to become a conversation tutor, please fill out this application form and return it to the LRC Office in CLA 328.
