Accounting Major Requirements

 

Foundation Courses 

(each course is 1 course unit or the equivalent of 4 semester hours while labs are .5 of a course unit or 2 semester hours)

The following courses should be completed by the end of sophomore year. 

1. GW 100 Gateway Colloquium
2. ACC 111 Accounting Procedures Lab 
3. ACC 112 Introduction to Financial Accounting with a Lab for Accounting Majors
4. ACC 212 Introduction to Managerial Accounting with an Excel Lab for all Majors
5. ECON 100 Introduction to Economics (this course counts as CSI for gen education purposes) 
6. ECON 227 Business and Economics Statistics
7. DASC 125 Introduction to Data Sciences, or MAT 110 Finite Math, or MAT176 Applied Analysis or University Credit for AP Calculus (we strongly recommend that our students take DASC 125 and DASC 225, these courses count as Formal Reasoning).

Major Core Requirements

(each course is one course unit or the equivalent of 4 semester hours)

300 and 400 level courses are to be taken upon successful completion of the foundations courses with the exception of BUS 355, which may be taken in the sophomore year.

1. ACC 216 Professional Issues in Accounting (AV & WI and meets business ethics requirement for the CPA exam)
2. ACC 218 Accounting Information Systems
3. ACC 219 Introduction to Data Analytics in Accounting
4. ACC 315 Income Tax Accounting
5. ACC 316 Intermediate Accounting I / Introduction to Auditing I
6. ACC 317 Intermediate Accounting II 
7. ACC 318 Intermediate Accounting / Introduction to Auditing II
8. FIS 303 Financial Management 
9. BUS 331 Marketing: Principles and Management
10. BUS 355 Business Law I 

Please note that our curriculum is designed to prepare students for the new format of the CPA exam, which will be implemented in 2024. Students will work with their faculty advisor to choose appropriate electives (not listed here).
