Bachelor of Arts in Art - Degree Requirements

Our BA in Art provides a flexible two-track program in Studio Art or Graphic Design and is intended to facilitate integration with study in other fields. The BA is the appropriate degree for most students seeking to double major. The School of Art will accept as a BA degree major any student who meets the general requirements for entrance to the University.

 

Choose a Path

BA Concentration in Studio Art explores the foundations of making art and artifacts in two-dimensions (drawing, painting, printmaking, and photography) and three-dimensions (glass, ceramics, sculpture, installation). Courses focus on problem solving skills in visual expression relevant for our contemporary culture.

BA Concentration in Graphic Design provides a broad understanding of visual communication theory and practice. Through the development of conceptual, aesthetic, and technical skills, students will create visual messages across a variety of media. Courses utilize design methodology, design principles, gestalt principles, color theory, typography, imagery, and manual and digital techniques.

 

Bachelor of Arts Degree Requirements

A minimum of 32 courses are required for the BA degree.

Twelve courses minimum in the Studio Art concentration:

  1. ART 111, 113, 115, 320, 322, and 399
  2. Select 1 course from: ART 130, 135, 140, 141, 240
  3. Select 1 course from: ART 125, 137, 139, 225
  4. Select 2 courses in studio ART 100-level and above
  5. Select 2 courses in studio ART 200-level and above

 

Fourteen courses minimum in the Graphic Design concentration:      

  1.   ART 111, 113, 115, 140 or 240, 141, 241, 242, 320, 341, 342, 343, 399
  2.  Select 2 courses from: studio ART 100-level and above, studio ART 100-level and above,
     BUS 240
