Sociology
Professor of Sociology and Anthropology
University of Illinois at Urbana
A native of Streator, Illinois, Georganne Rundblad first discovered sociology in high school, then went on to receive Bachelors (1982) and Masters (1986) degrees in Sociology at Illinois State University in Normal and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana (1993). Her areas of interest include the sociology of work and occupations, race, class, and gender, and women's studies. All of these interests are reflected in her research on how the care of the dead was transformed from unpaid work performed in the home by women into a lucrative new profession monopolized by men. A popular and creative teacher, Dr. Rundblad is responsible for courses in Race and Ethnic Relations, Marriage and Family, Medical Sociology, and Class, Status, and Power.
