Education

Dr. Jacobs earned her Diploma in nursing from Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing in 1984 then completed her BSN from Mennonite College of Nursing in 1987. In 1991 she obtained her master’s degree in parent-child nursing from Northern Illinois University. Dr. Jacobs earned a post-masters certificate in nurse-midwifery in 1995 and a DNP in systems and women’s health in 2011 from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Jacobs achieved certification as an inpatient obstetrics nurse from NCE in 1991 and certified nurse midwife from ACNM in 1995.

Biography

Prior to becoming full-time as Instructional Support and Outcomes Coordinator at Illinois Wesleyan School of Nursing in 2017 Dr. Jacobs served as adjunct clinical faculty in the School of Nursing. She previously taught at Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University as an assistant professor. For over 30 years she has experience working in the clinical setting at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in various positions from staff nurse, manager, clinical nurse specialist, nurse education specialist and as an APRN for Advocate Medical Group in Integrative Health for Women. Dr. Jacobs continues to practices as an APRN at the Center for Integrative Medicine and teaches community childbirth and parenting classes for Advocate BroMenn.

Honors & Memberships

Dr. Jacobs was a nominee for the “Kathleen Hogan Teaching Excellence Award” at Mennonite College of Nursing. At Advocate BroMenn she received the “Nurses Who Light the Way Award” and was voted outstanding committee member for the March of Dimes Central Illinois Region. She is a member of the International Society for Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation in Nursing and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society.
